The tulum (bagpipe) is the soul of traditional Laz music. This article explores the rich tradition of tulum music in Lazistan, from its ancient roots in the pastoral highlands to its modern revival by artists like Birol Topalou011flu.

Tulum music accompanies the horon dance and is an essential part of weddings, festivals, and community celebrations throughout the Laz homeland. The instrument’s continuous drone and haunting melodies create a sound that is uniquely associated with the eastern Black Sea coast.

We present here a curated selection of traditional tulum pieces from different regions of Lazistan, each with its own distinctive style and character.
